The next day I decided to strike out into the countryside a bit and found a youth hostel in Fjótsdalur, at the end of a road leading into the Thorsmörk valley in south-central Iceland. It only took a couple of hours to drive out there in the morning, and I encountered yet another secondary road that devolved into gravel.
